Questions

How do I know where the accent goes?

The written accent (tilde) marks the stressed syllable when the normal stress rules are broken. Listen to the word — the syllable you hear stressed is the one that takes the accent, e.g. ca-FÉ, MÚ-si-ca, co-ra-ZÓN.

Why do Spanish accents matter?

They change pronunciation and sometimes meaning (papa = potato, papá = dad). Getting them right makes your written Spanish clearer and correct.
